Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini is one of the composer's most celebrated operas, a production available thanks to the cooperation between the Teatro Colón, the Latin American Opera network and Royal Swedish Ópera together with the Ópera Vision platform.

Madama Butterfly is an opera in three acts with music by Giacomo Puccini. Puccini based his opera on part of John Luther Long's short story "Madame Butterfly" (1898), which was dramatized by David Belasco. Puccini was also based on Pierre Loti's novel Madame Chrysanthème (1887). According to one scholar, the opera was based on events that actually occurred in Nagasaki in the early 1890s.
