Casa Carlos Gardel Museum: where the 2x4 lives Do you want to enter and tour the house that Carlos Gardel lived in with his mother Berta and his uncles? It is an experience that you cannot miss. Today the house in the Balvanera neighborhood, where the famous singer lived from 1927 until his farewell to Argentina on November 7, 1933, is the headquarters of the Casa Carlos Gardel Museum. It was inaugurated on March 4, 2003 to rescue, preserve, research and disseminate the heritage linked to Gardel, his time and the cultural industries in which he participated. In the covered patio of this construction, when he was not on tour, Gardel used to meet with his loved ones to enjoy the delicious dishes that his mother prepared. Like Doña Berta, she also began to travel and spend long periods in France with her family of origin. There were periods in which the only occupants of this house were Gardel's uncles, Doña Anaïx and Don Fortunato. The museum rooms invite you to get closer to Gardel's life, going through his first steps, his discography, filmography and his last trip, in which he lost his life in a plane accident in the middle of a successful tour. for Latin America. The voice of “Morocho del Abasto” will accompany you throughout the entire journey. You will find it open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on weekends, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Curiosities Although Gardel was born abroad (it is still debated today whether he was in 1890 in Toulouse, France, or in 1887, in Tacuarembó, Uruguay), he arrived in Argentina as a child and grew up in this neighborhood. During his very extensive career as a tango singer he recorded albums and filmed films in Latin America, Europe and the United States. His mausoleum is located in the Chacarita cemetery. There is a statue of the famous singer smiling, dressed in a suit, with his left hand inside his pants pocket and his right hand folded at the level of his abdomen.
