The collector

Caballito
In the pleasant neighborhood of Caballito there is a very special building on the corner of Florencio Balcarce and Rivadavia, in front of the Rivadavia Park, or Lezica, according to the saying of old neighbors. On the last floor of the building, the fifth, lived the notable writer and poet Conrado Nalé Roxlo (1898-1971). On the ground floor of the building, from 1915 or 1920, there was always a café. It was originally El Pelicano. Then, there worked El Cóndor, obviously frequented by Nalé, who on more than one occasion accompanied Roberto Arlt and Antonio Berni.

For several years the coffee made a barter: The Collector by El Cóndor. His name pays tribute to his important clientele, especially to Sundays from four in the morning: collectors of stamps, coins and medals.

The architect Aquilino González Podestá, president of the Board of Historical Studies of Caballito and Friends of the Streetcar Association, true character, declared in the year 2003 Illustrious Citizen of the City by the Buenos Aires Legislature, usually take a coffee in El Coleccionista, one of the few coffees that work 24 hours, always offering their traditional hospitality. Night owls appreciate it.

In the breakfast hours on Saturdays and Sundays in the morning (which lasts until noon), and the same days in the afternoon at tea time, you have to be patient to find a place. It is also a meeting point between the neighbors of Caballito who usually have lunch the typical minutes made "like at home".
