A festival where they take center stage
There are those who go out for a walk with their dog and end up planning their entire day around it. They look for a park where it can run, a pet-friendly café, or simply a place to spend time together.
This weekend, those plans step up in scale.
Festival Mascotear celebrates its fourth edition in Buenos Aires, transforming the surroundings of the Floralis Genérica in Recoleta into a space dedicated to the world of pets.
Over two days, there will be games, contests, recreational activities, talks, and experiences designed for animals and humans to enjoy together. The event will take place on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with free admission and advance registration.
Parades, games, and new friends
One of the festival's main attractions is its entertainment lineup.
There will be Pet Fashion, costume parades, agility and skill competitions, and Pet Dating—a canine meet-up concept that adds a playful, humorous touch to the day.
Activities are also slated for pets to join in alongside their families, featuring challenges and contests that bring out their unique abilities.
Beyond the prizes, the aim is to share a memorable moment: break out of routine, meet other animals, and enjoy an environment designed especially for them.
And for those who prefer people-watching over competing, there will always be something to see.
Wellness has its place, too
Mascotear goes far beyond entertainment.
The schedule features dedicated spaces for animal care and wellbeing, including talks on topics related to coexistence, pet health, and their daily needs.
Announced activities include pet yoga, meditation, reiki, and other wellness offerings. There will also be music provided by a chill-out DJ set.
The event offers a chance to explore various practices and talk about the everyday care our four-legged companions require.
In the case of complementary therapies, it is important to remember that they do not replace veterinary care or evidence-based medical treatments.
An opportunity to find a new companion
Another highlight will be the dog and cat adoption drive.
Animal welfare organizations will take part in the festival to provide information about responsible adoption and connect rescue animals looking for a home with potential families.
It is one of the initiatives that gives the event a deeper dimension.
Because beyond celebrating the companions already in our lives, Mascotear also invites us to think of those animals still waiting for a family of their own.
Adopting means taking on a long-term commitment, making the festival an ideal first step to gather information, talk with rescue organizations, and understand the adoption process.
An outing for the entire family
The experience is equally designed for the people accompanying their pets.
There will be food trucks, culinary options, and menus specially crafted for pets, alongside vendor areas featuring pet accessories, products, and the latest industry novelties.
The chosen venue adds another appeal: Plaza de las Naciones Unidas, one of Recoleta’s most iconic green spaces.
With the Floralis Genérica as a backdrop, the festival invites visitors to spend several hours outdoors, explore the activities, and enjoy a unique outing in Buenos Aires.
On Saturday the 24th, the Repara Móvil will also be on site, offering repair workshops for pet fabric accessories—such as leashes, blankets, and sweaters—as well as basic bicycle fixes.
Buenos Aires: a city to share with them
Pets are becoming part of more and more everyday plans: walks, meetups with friends, outdoor adventures, and weekend getaways.
Mascotear brings many of those experiences together in one place.
Yet its greatest draw is not necessarily the funniest parade or the most inventive contest.
It lies in the chance to dedicate quality time to them, connect with others who cherish that same bond, and learn new ways to nurture their wellbeing.
Because sometimes the best weekend plan is also the simplest: heading out for a walk together and discovering something new along the way.
