Properly separated household waste can be transformed into resources instead of garbage. That is why it is very important that both locals and tourists take into account how this classification is carried out in Buenos Aires. The first thing to do is detect which waste is recyclable and which is not. Recyclables are those that can, after receiving a special treatment, become raw material and be reused in a production circuit. Such is the case of clean paper, cardboard and plastics, whole glass and metals. The waste that should be considered garbage are those that do not meet the requirements to be recovered for reuse or recycling: broken glass, fluorescent tubes or lamps, used paper napkins, boxes with dirt - melted cheese, oil - and sanitary waste, among others. Only properly separated materials can be recycled. To separate the waste, you can have two different baskets or a trash can and another container to keep the recyclables clean and dry. This is essential so that they do not contaminate others; in other words, so that potentially recyclable materials are not wet or dirty. It is recommended to wash or rinse the pots of yogurt or cream cheese, the delivery food trays, etc., without exceeding the use of water, since taking care of water is another way to protect the planet.
