Coliseum Theater

Retiro
The Teatro Coliseo is a traditional and ancient Argentine theater, located in Buenos Aires, which is located in the Retiro neighborhood (Buenos Aires), street: Marcelo T. de Alvear 1125, opposite the Plaza Libertad.

The history of the theater is divided into several stages, due to the remodeling and relocation of the theater.

The first stage extended between its inauguration in 1804 - even in colonial times - in front of the Church of La Merced and 1834; the second one extended from the remodeling of 1834 and the demolition of 1873, when it was known as the Coliseo Argentino or Teatro Argentino; the third stage extended from its reconstruction in front of the Plaza Libertad in 1905 until its closure in 1937; and the fourth extends from the last remodeling and slight relocation, to the present.

In the year 2018, the ITALIA XXI cycle was born, which aims to present the theatrical, musical and dance scene of contemporary Italy, in one of the most important stages of Italy, outside its territory: the Teatro Coliseo de Buenos Aires.

The new Cycle, created by the Teatro Coliseo, in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage of Italy, the Italian Institute of Culture of Buenos Aires, and the Italian Embassy in Argentina, was born in response to the demand of the local public, eager to Italian cultural content, with a view to promoting contemporary excellence. It will be developed over two years: 2018 and 2019.
