Kirchner Cultural Center

Architecture and Art

The CCK is an emblematic building of the city of Buenos Aires, former Palace of Posts and Telegraphs (declared National Historic Monument in 1997 and whose furniture was also recognized as historical heritage), currently dependent on the Federal System of Media and Public Content of La Nación , dedicated to the most diverse contents: music, visual arts, childhood, training.

The project was entrusted to the French architect Norbert-Auguste Maillart, who settled in Buenos Aires in 1887 and presented a first proposal in 1888. Between 1911 and 1912 there were advances in the works, but once again it was modified: the walkways were removed perimeter and a large steel skeleton was incorporated that lightened the building and turned it into one of the most modern works in the country. The works were completed in 1928, the year in which the building was inaugurated by President Marcelo T. de Alvear. The construction process of the old Post Office Palace lasted 40 years, its restoration and remodeling.

The building has the best spaces and rooms that allow the presentation of a wide and diverse cultural offer. Among its main attractions are La Ballena Azul, a large symphonic music hall for 1,750 spectators; a Chamber Music Room for 540 people, and a hanging glass structure that emulates a Great Lamp-an object that gives it its name; sustained from a framework of Vierendeel beams.

On the 4th, 5th floors. and 6th., there are spaces available for meetings, video projections, conferences, exhibitions and waiting rooms, 6 auditoriums with capacity for more than 104 spectators each, multipurpose rooms and lobbies that give account of the splendor of the building. In turn, on the upper floors (7th.) The carpentry of the library and the newspaper library were restored.
The Dome: it was a residual space that was recovered in which the general structure was maintained, but the slates were replaced by a faceted glass that together with a computerized light system (led lights) becomes an attraction for the city . This place of multiple uses has a draw, scenic lights, side benches of pinotea and an exclusive cooling system that adds comfort to the place.

The viewpoints located at the top of the Kirchner Cultural Center are the first public panoramic point of Buenos Aires and offers one of the best views of the city.

It has more than 100,000 square meters and has the size of the most important cultural centers in the world, such as L 'Auditori, in Barcelona; the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum, Madrid; the Tate Modern in London and the Georges Pompidou National Center for Art and Culture in Paris.

The CCK will be positioned in this period in an important cultural beacon of Argentina to the World with an infrastructure at the level of the main cultural centers of the world, and equipped with the latest technology.
