Colonia – Uruguay

It is an ideal destination to visit during a weekend with just crossing the Rio de La Plata to just over an hour by boat from Buenos Aires.

Travelers can get to know the colony of the sacrament, a small Uruguayan city that gained fame for its history, its familiar atmosphere and its landscape on the banks of the river.

Colonia gives visitors the mysteries of its cobbled and irregular streets that were the scene of several colonizers and now a redoubt stopped in time: each house, each stone and each tree have a spirit that comes from ancient times its historic center, a neighborhood of 15 blocks, was declared a world heritage site in 1995. Its architecture is a fusion of Portuguese, Spanish and post-colonial styles.

And its culture of its 25 thousand inhabitants is a product of the mixture of Portuguese, Spaniards, Dutch, French, Swiss and Italians.

The must-see sights in Colonia are walking along the "Calle de los Susiros", knowing the old lighthouse and museums, tasting its gastronomy and hotels.
