Congress of the Nation

Centro

The National Congress is the palace where the Argentine parliament functions. From there the Legislative Power of the country is exercised, made up of 257 deputies and 72 senators.

It was inaugurated in 1906 but its construction ended 40 years later with the design of the architect Víctor Meano. The work was completed by the sculptor Jules Dormal, one of the builders of the Teatro Colón - together with Meano - who respected the plans of the original project.

The building has a style of high Italian academicism from the late 19th century. Its dome is 80 meters high and is one of the largest in the city. Its exterior is clad in gray limestone with a granite base.

The first Congress building, which had its headquarters in Balcarce and Hipólito Yrigoyen, had been inaugurated in 1864.
