El Ateneo Grand Splendid

The Ateneo Grand Splendid is a bookstore located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It stands out for being located where the Grand Splendid theater did, having preserved the original architecture of said theater, but being in turn readapted to function as a bookstore.

It is located on Avenida Santa Fe 1860, in the Recoleta neighborhood. It was chosen by the British newspaper The Guardian as the second most beautiful bookstore in the world.

The current library kept the splendor of the now-defunct cinema-theater, with the painted dome, the original balconies, the intact ornamentation and even the velvet curtain. Several comfortable armchairs distributed allow you to sit down to read any book without the obligation to purchase both in what was the stalls and in the old boxes, or in what was the stage that is currently used in a restaurant and confectionery and has a piano in the which plays music that accompanies the reading.

In the basement, the escalators lead to the children's book and music room.
The highest floor is dedicated to exhibitions. Where paperbacks are sold were the ticket windows.
