Ribera Theater

La Boca
The Teatro de la Ribera is a theater hall dedicated since 2010 exclusively to tango, located in the La Boca neighborhood, in the City of Buenos Aires. Opened on October 27, 1971 in Avenida Don Pedro de Mendoza 1821, the theater was donated by the painter Benito Quinquela Martín to the National Council of Education.

The theater, which currently belongs to the Theater Complex of Buenos Aires, has in its hall eight murals made by the artist himself. It has a capacity of 475 seats in the lower stalls and 168 seats in the upper stalls, and the stage has an embouchure of 11.3 meters and a depth of 14.

The theater was inaugurated in 1971, due to a donation from the famous Boquense painter Benito Quinquela Martín. The theater is located in the neighborhood of La Boca, a very popular district of the City of Buenos Aires, traditionally linked to tango. A few meters from the theater is the Caminito promenade, street-museum that remembers the famous song and next to School No. 9 (DE 4) Pedro de Mendoza.

The building, located opposite the Riachuelo, in the Vuelta de Rocha, adopted an unconventional architecture, both in its form and in its coloration, inspired by the painting of Quinquela Martín and in the characteristics of the popular housing of La Boca.
