Borges Cultural Center

Palermo
Located in the heart of the city of Buenos Aires, the Borges Cultural Center is an important cultural enterprise created by the Foundation for the Arts, a non-profit civil organization for the public good. It was inaugurated in October 1995 occupying a space of more than 10,000 m2 inside the Galerías Pacífico, a building from the end of the 19th century that was declared a National Historical Monument in 1989.

The destiny of the building is linked to the arts from its beginnings. In 1896, it housed the first seat of the National Museum of Fine Arts and in the mid-forties the magnificent murals that today constitute an emblem were made. Under this roof also worked the Fine Arts Stimulation Association, the Athenaeum, the Islas Malvinas Center and the teacher Ángel Della Valle had his workshop here.

In a contemporary setting, the Cultural Center was inaugurated by the King of Spain Juan Carlos I, accompanied by all the cultural environment of the city. It opened its doors with a complete exhibition by Jorge de la Vega, the exhibition Arte de Argentina, 1920-1994 prepared by the Museum of Modern Art of the University of Oxford, a space linked to the figure of Jorge Luis Borges, the famous Corona de the Andes and a room in which Spanish painting from the 19th and 20th centuries was exhibited. The conceptual project was carried out according to the commitment of the shopping center to allocate an important part of the surface to cultural activities. A management commitment that has been in place for more than twenty years.
