Things to do in Puerto Madero

Puerto Madero is the most modern neighborhood in the City of Buenos Aires. Just a few blocks from the old San Telmo and the city center, Puerto Madero appears to be a different city. The neighborhood combines historic port buildings, built with bricks and iron arches, with modern and elegant restaurants and skyscrapers with glass walls. In addition, in Puerto Madero you can find a huge Ecological Reserve with access to the river.

Woman's bridge

It has become the main icon of the classic Puerto Madero postcard. It is a bridge built by the famous architect Santiago de Calatarava in 2001. The abstract design is a synthesis of a tango couple . The Puente de la Mujer represents all the outstanding Argentine women in the country's history. You can cross the bridge walking with the company of the old dikes that used to work in the port. On one side of the bridge you can find the Sarmiento Frigate , a historic ship that was part of the Argentine Navy. For a few years it has operated as a museum with nautical instruments.

Walking the dikes

Puerto Madero used to be the commercial port of Buenos Aires. The old exposed brick levees were remodeled to serve as universities, restaurants, offices and residences. On the other side of the canal is a modern skyline of luxurious residential buildings, forming a picturesque contrast. It is very pleasant to walk on both sides of the canal enjoying the view, the restaurants and the particular panorama of this part of the city. Along the way you can find the Fortabat Art Collection , the most important museum in the neighborhood, with works by Andy Warhol, William Turner and some of the best national painters.

Ecological Reserve

The natural park was recovered and converted into a reserve in 1986. At the beginning of the 19th century a spa operated in this area and citizens enjoyed bathing in the river. Buenos Aires grew and so did the pollution, making the river an unhealthy place. Nature began to reclaim its space and, thanks to the constant floods and the invasion of camalotes, the vegetation re-emerged. Nowadays it is a pleasant space to learn about the nature of the city and the best place to enjoy the Río de la Plata.

Gastronomic offer

Without a doubt, Puerto Madero has one of the best gastronomic offers in the City of Buenos Aires. Walking along its levees you will find many varieties of restaurants, bars and cafes to eat all kinds of food. In their area, the vast majority of them have outdoor tables that overlook the dam to enjoy a delicious meal in this new normal.
