More than 100 exhibitors, hundreds of varieties and a competition to choose the best alfajor in the world. From August 15 to 17, BA Ferial brings together Argentine and international producers to celebrate one of the country’s most beloved sweets from every angle: flavor, creativity, craft and innovation.
A classic that never stops reinventing itself
Some products are part of everyday life without needing an introduction. The alfajor is one of them. It’s in kiosks, on highways, in service stations, at snack times and in the suitcases of travelers. But behind that familiarity lies a much broader universe: regional recipes, artisanal ventures, unexpected combinations and producers who turn a popular sweet into a small signature creation.
This universe reunites in Buenos Aires with the fifth edition of the World Alfajor Championship, which for three days brings together more than 100 exhibitors from different regions of Argentina and abroad. The proposal combines a gastronomic fair, competition, tastings and activities to approach the alfajor from very different perspectives.
A trip around the world in alfajor format
Walking through the stands is, in many ways, a journey through flavors, textures and traditions. There are classic alfajores, regional proposals, signature versions and combinations that take the format into unexpected territories.
In addition to meeting the producers, visitors can taste different varieties, participate in tastings and guided samplings, discover new products and take home favorites to continue enjoying.
The presence of producers from different countries also shows how the alfajor has ceased to be exclusively an Argentine specialty to become a product with international projection. This edition includes representatives from Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, United States, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada, Spain, New Zealand and Turks and Caicos Islands.
What makes an alfajor the best?
The heart of the event is the competition. More than 20 specialists evaluate the products through a blind tasting based on sensory analysis, so that brand identity does not influence the decision.
The evaluation covers 19 categories and brings together profiles linked to gastronomy, the food industry and sensory analysis. The texture of the cookies, the aroma, the balance of ingredients, fillings and coatings are some of the aspects considered when deciding which are the best.
The results will be announced during the championship, when the different categories crown their winners and finally the Best Alfajor in the World 2026 is revealed.
From dulce de leche to packaging
The proposal also allows us to look at the alfajor from a less obvious perspective: that of an industry that innovates.
During the three days there will be masterclasses, talks and demonstrations related to ingredients, production, chocolate, dulce de leche, machinery and new product development. The technical stage will also offer content on innovation, packaging, marketing and commercial development.
This intersection between tradition and experimentation helps explain why the alfajor remains relevant. It can preserve the usual formula or become a laboratory to test new flavors, formats and materials.
A tour to share
Although the competition has a strong professional component, the championship is also designed for those who simply enjoy eating, discovering and exploring. There will be raffles, live music, interactive activities and a sector especially dedicated to children.
The chosen weekend also adds a special context: Sunday, August 16 coincides with Children’s Day and Monday, August 17 is a national holiday commemorating General José de San Martín. It’s a great opportunity to turn the visit into a family outing and spend a few hours exploring a gastronomic universe that, although everyday, still has much to discover.
A sweet that also tells who we are
Perhaps part of the alfajor’s appeal lies precisely in its ability to be many things at once. An industrial or artisanal product, a family tradition, a travel souvenir, a childhood snack or a sophisticated gastronomic creation.
At BA Ferial, all these versions come together for three days. And among chocolates, dulce de leche, crunchy or soft cookies and increasingly unexpected combinations, one question remains open for visitors:
Which will be, this time, the best alfajor in the world?
