How to get around the City

Bus Network

The bus is the most characteristic means of transportation in Buenos Aires. It allows you to reach any point in the city. To use it, you need to acquire a SUBE card and load it with money.

Additionally, the City of Buenos Aires has 9 Metrobus corridors, a transportation system that combines articulated and traditional buses with exclusive lanes. Besides improving road safety and reducing travel times, they help buses emit less carbon dioxide and pollute less.

The suburban railway network is a good alternative for traveling to neighborhoods far from the city center or for visiting tourist areas outside its radius (such as Tigre and the Delta). The service is economical and can be accessed at various stations with a SUBE card. Depending on the area you want to travel to, there are different main stations located in various neighborhoods of the city.

A city with bicycles

The City of Buenos Aires has 300 km of bike lanes and paths that make cycling a safe alternative. You can use your own bicycle or the “BA EcoBici” program (download the EcoBici App), the public bike system.

BA EcoBici has 360 stations and 3,700 bicycles distributed throughout the City, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Residents from any part of Argentina have up to 4 free 30-minute rides per day, Monday to Friday (working days). Check all other available pass options.

Foreign tourists can also purchase their pass, for a fee, through the app. There are different options:

Single ride: 1 ride per day of up to 30 minutes.
Daily: unlimited rides of up to 60 minutes.
Three days: unlimited rides of up to 120 minutes each for three days.
Seven days: unlimited rides of up to 120 minutes each for one week.

Taxis y remises para viajar con confort

It is one of the most expensive transportation services in the City. The number of taxis circulating in the City is very large, and they are easily recognized because they are painted black and yellow. You can stop and take them directly on the street or request them by phone. Radio taxis (equipped with radio systems) are considered safer. The fare consists of an initial price (known as the “flag drop”) and an additional charge based on distance and time.

Additionally, the Government of the City of Buenos Aires launched BA Taxi: an app to connect passengers and taxi drivers without the need to call or stop a vehicle on the street. Besides being able to know in advance the approximate cost of the trip, you can have the driver's name and personalize the trip according to the passenger's needs. It also allows payment with all payment methods. Download it.

Another alternative is to request a remis by phone from an agency, a car service with a driver with some characteristics similar to a taxi, although their vehicles do not have any special color that identifies them. The price of the trip will depend on the distance to be traveled and is agreed upon with the agency before starting it.

Rent a car and travel for the day

In Buenos Aires, there are numerous car rental agencies without drivers, many of them belonging to international companies. To rent a car, you need to be over 21 years old, have a valid driver's license with two years of experience, and a credit card with enough limit to cover the rental and the deposit.

To drive on the highways of the City of Buenos Aires, it is mandatory to have TelePASE. TelePASE is a service that allows you to pass through tolls without stopping and without the need to use cash. It works by reading the adhesive device placed on the windshield of vehicles and on the windshield or above the headlight of motorcycles.
