International Beer Day

Beer is one of humanity's oldest fermented beverages and one of the most valued. And since 2007, the International Beer Day has been celebrated every first Friday in August, a tradition that originated in a small bar in Santa Cruz, California (United States). The celebration attracted so much attention that it is currently being celebrated around the world, including 207 cities, 50 countries and 6 continents. And it is increasing.

This celebration with beer as the protagonist can vary depending on where in the world we are. For example in Germany they celebrate Beer Day on April 23. In the US on April 5. But what is certain is that International Beer Day is being standardized worldwide on the first Friday in August.

Origin of beer

As we have said, beer is one of the oldest drinks of humanity. In fact, the earliest indications of brewing date back to the Sumerians in Lower Mesopotamia, around 4,000 BC. They made it from barley. Later in the Babylonian Empire, brewing was perfected.

The first known recipe is found in the Code of Hammurabi, the oldest surviving set of laws, precisely created in ancient Mesopotamia.

The Egyptians brewed beer by mixing it with honey, dates, and cinnamon. Beer went through all civilizations: Greeks, Romans, Germanic.
